Cleaning & Decluttering Tips To Sell Your Home

1. Make A Schedule

Go throughout your home and find out what areas need the most work and where you can make the biggest difference. Find the areas you normally skip during your routine cleaning, we all have them. Whether it’s on top of the fridge or behind the closet doors. These are the best places to start as they don’t get the same amount of attention and tend to gather the same amount of dust and dirt throughout daily use. Regardless of where you start your Spring cleaning, having a plan will keep you focused on the task at hand and on schedule.

2. Declutter Your Home

Many studies show that a disorganized home adds to your stress level. It signals to your brain that work isn’t done. As we’re all spending more time at home decluttering has become more essential than ever.
Set aside some time every day to:
● Organize and clean your office/workspace
● Clean up your desk drawer and office cabinets (finding that file easily is amazing!)
● Organize and clean your closets (buyers look)
● Make your bed (this website talks in detail about the benefits this can do)
You may be surprised how fresh you’ll feel after you remove the unnecessary stress from your life, plus your home will look great.

3. Clean Everything!

Put a lot of effort in when it comes to cleaning your home, especially when it comes to putting it up for sale. You can remove most issues with just a good vacuum and some cleaning supplies. Nothing is more off-putting to potential buyers than when you walk into a home and see dust build-up and dirt.

When you think about cleaning your home, it’s important to start from the ceiling down as this will cause anything that drops to be organized or thrown out. Keeping you also on track because you know which way to focus your cleaning and organizing. If you have a vacuum that has a detachable nose you can use it to clean up cobwebs and dust from your ceilings, doors, and fans. Vacuum your furniture and floors afterwards to clean up and prevent anything that you may have missed.

4. Clean Your Walls & Windows

Most people almost always clean their floors regularly, but often forget about the walls and windows of their home. Not all dust settles on the floor so it is important to clean these areas as well on a regular basis. A quick tip is to use a damp towel to wipe down walls and blinds. Remove and wipe down your window screens inside and outside as these tend to collect dust and dirt. Cleaning your windows to sparkle is very important as it helps let the sunlight in and offers potential buyers a great viewing inside and out. (Be sure to clean both sides of your windows or if you can’t get a professional company to come in and clean them so they look great!)

5. The Kitchen & Bathroom

Everyone fears the kitchen and bathroom! But here are a few common trouble areas that are often forgotten about:
Kitchen Tips:
● Go through your pantry and refrigerator. Clean and wipe down the shelves, and throw away any old items that you don’t plan to use. (Buyers often look in the fridge)
● If you have stainless steel appliances, be sure to use gentle cleaners or a steam cleaner to avoid scratches.
● Wipe down your cabinets.

Bathroom Tips:
● Go through your bathroom drawers and medicine cabinet and throw away any expired items or anything you don’t plan to use.
● Changing your shower curtain is an easy way to bring your bathroom back to life. (No one wants to see a mouldy shower curtain)

6. Change The Tone

If your home’s space feels dark and gloomy, making small changes can help make it light and refreshing. Adding new colourful pillows or an amazing piece of art is a great way to change up your space with not a lot of cost or effort. Try replacing items in your home like bedding, towels, curtains, and even adding a carpet are easy ways to transform your space for Spring.
